From prison,Jagan sweeps Andhra assembly,LS bypolls

YSR Congress Party wins 15 of 18 Assembly constituencies.

The YSR Congress Party of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy,who is in jail,swept the by-elections in Andhra Pradesh today,winning 15 of 18 Assembly constituencies as well as taking the Nellore Lok Sabha seat.

While there is no immediate danger to the Congress government,it’s a major blow.

The Congress could only win a seat each in East and West Godavari districts — otherwise considered bastions of the YSR Congress. Its candidates lost their deposits in five seats,it came in fifth in one and finished third in 10. Even its star Nellore candidate,T Subbirami Reddy,lost to YSR Congress’s Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy by 2.91 lakh votes.

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti won in Parkal,the lone constituency in Telangana. The Telugu Desam Party drew a blank.
