Don’t start CBMs till Pak stops terrorism,BJP tells UPA

The BJP asked UPA not to initiate confidence building measures with Pakistan until terrorism targeted at India from its soil is stopped.

Accusing the government of reversing the country’s foreign policy, the BJP asked it not to initiate confidence building measures with Pakistan until terrorism targeted at India from its soil is stopped.

Referring to the Indo-Pak joint statement issued in Sharm-el Sheikh,BJP president Rajnath Singh disagreed with the government’s claim that reference to Balochistan was “unilateral intervention” by Pakistan, saying it has never happened in the past.

“This (unilateral intervention) has not happened in any Indo-Pak joint statement in the past,” he said in an address to the BJP’s state executive committee meeting in Bangalore.

He said the incorporation of Balochistan in the joint statement issued after a meeting between the two Prime Ministers had “diluted” India’s focus on terrorism. “There is no need for confidence building measures with Pakistan till it stops terrorism on its soil.”

“Now,the Government should come out with some action for damage-control,” Singh demanded.

On the Indo-US nuclear deal,he said the BJP had warned the Government that it would come under pressure on NPT-CTBT but the Prime Minister had then said that it was aimed at strengthening strategic ties with the US.

“Now,the G8 has said unless India signs NPT,enrichment and reprocessing technologies cannot be supplied to it,” he said. “India has become a laughing stock,” he added.
