Chavan’s announcement a ‘bribe’,accuses BJP

Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan has announced Rs five lakh to each to three villages, from where he got maximum votes in the recent assembly polls.

The BJP on Monday termed Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s announcement of Rs five lakh to each three villages, which gave him maximum votes,as a “bribe” and said it would approach the Election Commission.

“The announcement was a bribe to the villagers, who voted for the Chief Minister. We are approaching the EC to complain about it,” General Secretary of BJP state unit,Vinod Tawade said.

Addressing a public meeting in his home constituency in Marathwada on November 14,Chavan had announced funds of Rs five lakh each for various projects in Chikala Tanda,Hudsapathrad and Vaijapur-Pardi villages, from where he got maximum votes in the recent assembly elections.

Criticising the Chief Minister,Tawade said Chavan’s statement indicated that only those villages, which had voted for the ruling party’s candidates, would see development.

“What about the villages or constituencies from where the opposition party member got elected?” Tawade said.

Chavan had defeated his nearest rival Independent candidate Madhavrao Kinhalkar by a margin of 1,07,503 votes in the October 13 polls.
