The industrial city will soon see some sprinkling of star dust with political parties lining up Bollywood stars and cricket heroes to campaign for them.
While Samajwadi Party,BJP and Congress are looking to edge out rivals with the help of star campaigners,the BSP is still relying on its leaders.
Samajwadi Party has invited actor-turned-politician Sanjay Dutt and Bhojpuri singer and its candidate from Gorakhpur Manoj Tiwari to campaign for Lok Sabha candidate Surendra Mohan Agrawal.
According to the party office,it is also looking forward to poll campaigning from Jaya Bachchan and Jaya Prada in the city. Senior SP leaders,including Mulayam Singh Yadav and Shivpal Singh Yadav,are also likely to hold public meetings in Kanpur.
Meanwhile,Congress candidate from Moradabad and former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin will hold street campaigns and public interactions on April 25 in support of his party candidate Sriprakash Jaiswal,senior Congress leader Rohit Kohli said,adding Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah will also campaign for the party on April 24.
Kohli said Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and AICC general Secretary Rahul Gandhi are also likely to campaign,though their programme has not been finalised.
Bhartiya Janata Party general secretary Arun Jaitley is arriving on April 15 in the city for campaigning in support of BJP candidate Satish Mahana. Uma Bharti will campaign for the same on April 16. Actors and BJP leaders Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini have also been called by the party.
Amid all this star-campaigning by major parties,the BSP is relying on their senior leaders. Party general secretary Satish Mishra and senior leader Nasimuddin Siddiqui will campaign for BSP candidate Sukhda Mishra on April 13. In the last phase of campaigning BSP chief Mayawati will hold a public meeting in Kanpur.
