ITR Filing FY 2024-25 (AY 2025-26) Last Date: The tax filing season for the financial year 2024-25 and assessment year 2025-26 commenced in early April this year, with the deadline, however, extended from July 31 to September 15, 2025.
Taxpayers are experiencing delays in receiving their income tax refunds for the fiscal year 2025-26, owing to the late distribution of ITR forms and backend processing difficulties.
If you have submitted your tax return, whether under the new or old tax regime, the delay of receiving refunds can be concerning since they usually get transferred to your bank account within 4 to 5 weeks of e-verification.
To claim the refund, it’s important to pre-validate your bank account, file the returns, and e-verify; below is a step-by-step guide to know how to check the ITR refund status online.
Step 1: Visit the income tax portal: https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and log in to your account.
Step 2: Click on ‘e-File,’ then ‘Income Tax Returns,’ and finally ‘View Filed Returns.’
Step 3: View the status of your current and historical income tax returns.
Step 4: Select ‘View details,’ and you will see the status of your income tax refund, as indicated in the image below.
Step 1: Visit the NSDL Portal: https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/refund-status-pan.html
Step 2: Enter your PAN information, pick the assessment year from the drop-down menu for which you are requesting a tax refund, and enter the captcha code.
Step 3: Select ‘Proceed’ from the ‘Taxpayer Refund (PAN)’ menu.
You will be taken to a page displaying the ‘Refund Status.’
