Yatra diaries

This refers to the editorial ‘The journey man’ (IE,September 10). It is sad that L.K. Advani is planning another rath yatra. Did his earlier yatras do any good to the nation? Instead,he was accused of inciting people’s religious sentiments with his Ram Janmabhoomi rath yatra. Does he once again want to divide the people, this time in the name of corruption? He will only damage his image further. Advani cannot become prime minister through rath yatras.

WITH reference to ‘It is not in BJP’s DNA to be bipartisan: Govt’ (IE,September 10),one can’t fathom the need for political sparring so soon after a tragedy like a bomb blast. Why can’t our MPs realise that this deep-rooted ideological division can be exploited by terrorists? Instead of quarrelling like antagonists, they should be joining forces to work on improving security measures, intelligence gathering and crisis response. As it is,it’s difficult to implement effective counter-terrorism measures in India.

One for all

THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel,Public Grievance,Law and Justice cannot discuss the government’s Lokpal bill without giving due attention to the extraordinary debates and a sense-of-the-House agreement in both houses of Parliament on August 27.

ATUL NANDA’S ‘The court eternal’ (IE,September 8) gives the real picture of how a country and its citizens continue to follow their routine, despite disruptions. The writer also says that no matter what,India will continue to stick to the “equal before the law” policy. Isn’t this is a matter of shame that while we have a large chunk of our population barely being able to make ends meet, the government has been spending on the security of and “fair trials” for perpetrators of violence? We have to come up with a policy that deals with the rapid handling of such cases.

THIS refers to the report ‘Mamata joins Oppn in criticising Communal Violence Bill, government says can re-draft’ (IE,September 11). The controversial communal violence bill formulated by the National Advisory Council — an extra-constitutional body — is driven by the Congress’s politics of minority votebank and is a recipe for national disintegration. Strangely, the government believed that it could get the dubious bill through the National Integration Council. How can there be a law which perpetually makes the majority community a culprit and the minority community a victim of communal violence?
