Courting quotas
The RSS mouthpiece Organiser in its latest issue, has expressed anguish and concern over the Supreme Court upholding the validity of the recent Andhra Pradesh government decision for a four per cent quota for Muslims. While the BJP has so far refrained from commenting directly on the Supreme Court observation (maintaining, however, that it is firmly against the idea of any religion or faith-based reservation),the Organiser ,in its editorial titled Who will speak for India if only religions matter? says: It is a matter of surprise, anguish and concern that the Supreme Court has upheld the validity of the controversial Andhra Pradesh decision to introduce a four per cent reservation for Muslims. With this it has added a dark and painful chapter in the politics of vote bank that is threatening to tear apart the secular fabric of the country. It has perhaps unwittingly extended a big push forward to the divisive UPA politics which is blindly pursuing an agenda of dividing the country on religious basis with the ulterior intent of inciting conversion. This it wants to do by subverting the Hindu majority through cynically encouraging religious minorities to assert for more rights and privileges which are systematically denied to the Hindu majority.
The editorial also argues that this will encourage the divisive politics of minorityism. Soon a situation will arise when the majority Hindus will be forced to ask for reservation on the basis of their demographic presence. And there will be only religions and their stake-holders,no Indians left in the country, claims the Organiser.
Ministering to minorities
Continuing with the same theme,M.V. Kamath writes an opinion piece titled Grow up India: Give up Minorityism where he argues that the time has come to banish two words secularism and minorityism from Indias political language. Over the years secularism came to be seen as identical with pampering Muslim sentiment… The Congress party went to the extent of setting up even a ministry for minorities,in total violation of the very concept of secularism. That ministry should be dismantled. There are no minorities in India. This is a country of minorities and in all past centuries, they have learnt to live together in peace and harmony, writes Kamath. By promoting minorityism,we have made every one acutely conscious of their caste which,in turn, has led to their demanding a proportionate share of power, through reservations, adds Kamath.
The Kashmir drift
The RSS mouthpiece carries a report on the recently held Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha meet (held at Kurukshetra). It says that the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha expressed concern over the direction in which the State of Jammu and Kashmir is drifting in the last couple of years… Accession of J&K into Indian Union is final and non-negotiable… Actions of both the state and Union governments are pushing it further in the direction of secessionism and greater autonomy. A strict ban on cow slaughter be imposed to prevent the cruel killings of the holy cow who is worshipped by millions of Hindus as the goddess and its killing means hurting the religious sentiments of the overwhelming population of this country. The spirit of India resides in the villages,so focus needs to be shifted to ensure the faster growth of rural India , adds the Organiser in another report discussing the same RSS meet.
