The Organiser came out with a rebuttal of Rahul Gandhi’s comment that the Congress is the default program for the anecdotal computer called India. An editorial in the weekly has used vocabulary related to computer systems to assert that it is “time to format the ‘default program’ of India”.

While the editorial seeks to correct Rahul Gandhi’s “supercomputer mind”,saying that “neither [is India a machine nor he or his ‘family run party’ an operator of it”,it also charges the Congress of leveraging the history of Independence in the “virtual memory” of masses to “install” features leading to “de-Indianisation” and “compartmentalisation of the hard disk” of national “hardware”. It blames the “incompatible configurations” inserted by Jawaharlal Nehru to allow “virus-attacks” against Indian values, hampering the”speed and performance” of India. It describes some of the party’s welfare programmes as part of 74 installable “programs and cookies” downloaded into a cache memory of Rahul Gandhi’s notional computer,India. This systems architecture, the editorial suggests, has been leveraged by “two corporate giants called ‘secularists’ and ‘leftists’”,promoted by the “second generation programmer called Indira Gandhi”.

Carrot Bill

The other Sangh Parivar journal,Panchjanya, has sought to puncture the ruling Congress’s food guarantee legislation against the backdrop of the worsening economic situation. “Sonia Gandhi did not tell Parliament as to where the money for this golden carrot being dangled before the electorate would come from,” says an editorial, with an accompanying article calling it “shameful” to “throw crumbs” before the poor of this country with an eye on votes when the country is on the brink of “mortgaging the gold” to save itself.

The editorial seeks to take the credit away from the Congress by highlighting that states like Chhattisgarh,Punjab and a clutch of southern states already have more generous provisions in their states. It also questions the viability of relying upon the “corrupt PDS” to implement the scheme. Both journals contrast the fiscally burdensome food guarantee legislation against the “devaluation, degeneration and desperation” prevailing in the economy, with an article in the Organiser describing the move as “an attempt to break the nation’s back”.

Punish Juveniles

The news of the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai has once again brought attention to the quantum of punishment required to check the incidence of rape. A well-displayed article written by former CBI director Joginder Singh in the Organiser suggests that “Enough is Enough: It’s time for a knee-jerk reaction” to penalise offenders.

The article draws attention to the rising rates of juveniles being accused for such crimes and suggests stringent punishment for them to deter others. “We have been blindly following the practice that a juvenile does not really know the consequences of his crime and he must be treated with kid gloves. If a juvenile knows what it is to have forcible sex,why should he be spared of the consequences of his deed?” reasons the article, referring to the alleged involvement of juveniles in the two prominent cases of rape in the recent past.
