Pak’s uranium
The Pakistan President, Zia-ul-Haq, has said Pakistan has acquired the uranium enrichment capability “not only for making a bomb, but also for peaceful purposes”. In an interview to be published in the next issue of The Week, Gen Zia said, “In a peaceful nuclear programme or in any nuclear programme, you can convert it into a non-peaceful one anytime you like. ENLF terms
The ceasefire between the Tamil militants and the Sri Lanka government could be consolidated only if the Eelam National Liberation Front’s (ENLF) 10-point demands were accepted, an ENLF spokesman said. The spokesman said the situation was very fluid in the absence of a clear-cut agreement regarding the truce. Leaders of the ENLF will meet in Madras in a day or two to decide on their stand on the committee to monitor the ceasefire.
