The unity and integrity of the nation was under threat “as never before during past 35 years” mainly due to the failure of the ruling party to find a solution to the urgent problems of the people, the leaders declared unanimously.

Mob Near Gurdwara
The police fired tear-gas shells and resorted to lathi charge to disperse a mob which turned violent near a gurdwara in Sector 26 in Chandigarh. Tension prevailed in the area with a large posse of police, including jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force concentrated there. Till late in the evening, senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration were making efforts to defuse the situation.
