Dalip Singh, the New Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (I) chief, is among nine persons in illegal occupation of land belonging to the Rehabilitation Ministry Employees Co-operative House Building Society, according to a survey report of the Department of Rehabilitation. About 650 members of the society propose to meet Rajiv Gandhi, general secretary of the AICC (I), and draw his attention to the fact that about 40 per cent of the land allotted to them is under illegal occupation.
The Delhi High Court gave a partial stay of the JNU authorities’ order to vacate hostels by noon and directed the hostellers having “genuine” difficulties in vacating the rooms to move applications before authorities Justice Prakash Narain clarified that the order was in respect of individual students who had “genuine or bona fide difficulties” in vacating the hostels as directed.

With the finalisation of the agreement between Israel and Lebanon on the withdrawal of troops, the Arab world is watching whether it will mean a step towards peace or war. In most Arab countries it is taken for granted that the agreement will be signed soon. The alternatives that can result from it are diametrically opposed. It can mean war and it can mean peace. This illustrates the tragedy of the present West Asian situation.
