Opposition CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury Sunday termed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP as Indian versions of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Save Constitution, Save Rights’ in Agartala, Chaudhury said that India was in a difficult situation and democratic, Constitutional and human rights were at stake in the country. The seminar was organised to commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar.

Chaudhury alleged that though the BJP claims to be a ‘nationalist’ party, the Tricolour was not hoisted at the RSS Bhawan in Nagpur before 2000.

“They are the ones who opposed the colour of our flag. They want the colour of the flag to be orange instead… Similarly, in Germany, under the leadership of Hitler, nationalism was invoked. It seems the RSS and the BJP are the Indian avatars of Adolf Hitler,” the CPI(M) leader said.

Criticising the central leadership of the BJP, Chaudhury said the Union budget was passed in Parliament this year without any discussion.

“Is it democracy?… Even the main principle of the Constitution to protect the weaker sections through different initiatives is becoming feeble,” he added.

He further said PM Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre was weakening the foundations of parliamentary democracy in the country, especially by creating divisions among people through provisions like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

He said a united stand against the ‘attacks’ on the Constitutional foundations of India was the only way out.

“We need to become united and fight against it. The BJP-RSS is the biggest enemy of all sections of people and the country… They want a fundamentalist Constitution…” he said.
