Tripura celebrated Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 128th birth anniversary along with the rest of the country on Tuesday and Chief Minister Manik Saha recalled his valour in the fight against the British.

Saha joined a procession and gathering at Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan in Agartala, where the BJP leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared Bose’s birthday as Parakram Diwas in 2021 as a sign of respect for him. “The entire country observes today as Parakram Diwas. Netaji’s valour and sacrifice encourage us even today,” he said.

Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, who attended a programme at the Maharajganj Bazaar area in Agartala, said that though he had served as Congress president, Bose had to quit following differences over non-violence and raised his Azad Hind Fauj to take on the colonial rulers.

A colourful procession of tableaux was taken out from Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan through the state capital’s streets. The school has been organising such processions with theme-based tableaux to sensitise people to Netaji’s life and works since 1951, three years after it was established.

Union minister Pratima Bhoumik took part in an event at Agartala. “Amrit Kaal is going on in India today. But every single person of the country bows down before Netaji since his firm resolve has taught us how to reach from decision to success despite all odds. We pay our heartfelt respects to his memory,” she said.

The ruling BJP as well as the Opposition Congress, All India Forward Bloc and other political parties also observed Bose’s birth anniversary.

State BJP chief hailed Bose as the “greatest hero” of the Indian freedom struggle, while Congress leader Balai Goswami said his party was spreading the message of nation building envisioned by the freedom fighter.
