Mpumulelo (Pommy) Mbangwa, a television commentator covering the Sri Lanka tour of Zimbabwe, was reportedly sacked and reinstated by the chairman of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union marketing committee Ozias Bvute.
The incident occurred during the last of five One-Day Internationals at Harare Sports Club last Thursday. In terms of the ZCU contract with the TV company Octagon, Bvute has the power to fire commentators. He told Mbangwa, according to TV personnel present, that he took exception to the latter “criticising the Zimbabwe team.” But later that day, a distraught Mbangwa wanted his dismissal reconsidered and Bvute relented, according to an Octagon senior staffer who confirmed the sacking.
