Yuvi should open with Sehwag, says Yograj

Everytime Yuvraj Singh excels on the cricket field, his father — also his mentor and first coach — former Indian Test cricketer Yograj Singh comes up with a suggestion or two for the Indian team management.

So, when the swashbuckling southpaw scored his first Test ton at Lahore today, sitting in Chandigarh, Yograj Singh could hardly resist himself from sending a message across to the Indian think-tank in Pakistan.

‘‘It is high time Yuvi is promoted in the batting order, both in one-dayers as well in the Test matches. He should either open or come on the one down position. Let’s stop putting pressure on him time and again by sending him at No. 6 in crunch situations,’’ Yograj said on Monday.

He is sure that if his ‘suggestion’ is implemented, Indians will taste success more often than ever.

‘‘If he is sent as an opener, it will give the team a good left-right combination to start with. Sehwag and Yuvraj can do wonders together,’’ Yograj opined.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj’s mother, Shabnam Singh remarked that his son was confident of doing well on the Pakistan tour. ‘‘These days he sounds very determined. I spoke to him yesterday and he was confident of putting up a good show,’’ said Shabnam from Gurgaon.
