NEW DELHI, July 16: Defending champions City Club were held to a goalless draw by Youngmen in a crucial group B match of DSA-SAIL Senior Division League at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.
In a match restricted to mid-field, both teams played it safe and made no concerted effort to attack. There were hardly a couple of goal-scoring efforts from both sides and both were satisfied with the end-result. City have collected 19 points from eight matches while Youngmen have 18 points after nine matches.
In another dull and drab affair, Mughals were held to a goalless draw by Youngsters at the Nehru Stadium.
South India prevailed over Indian Air Force (Palam) 1-0 to earn full points in another group B match at Ambedkar Stadium. After a well-fought goalless first-half, the all-important goal was scored by Rajesh in the 50th minute.
South India have collected 12 points from eight games while IAF have just three points after eight encounters.
Hans Club defeated Frontier Club 3-0. Mahender put his team ahead in the 17th minute while Rajesh Sundriyal (40th) and Surinder Singh (45th) added once each to complete the rout.
The victory helped Hans aggregate 13 points from nine matches while Frontier have five from seven.
At the Nehru Stadium, late on Wednesday, Simla Youngs defeated Garhwal Heroes 1-0. Jaipal scored the all-important goal in the 43rd minute to give Simla Youngs 15 points from seven matches. Garhwal Heroes have four points from six matches.
