While the National Conference NC didn8217;t do well in villages in Kashmir in the local body polls, in Srinagar, it left the ruling People8217;s Democratic Party PDP smarting, bagging 41 seats. The PDP could only win 17 seats. Srinagar is the home constituency of Omar Abdullah and this victory has established his leadership in the NC and silenced several old guards who called him 8216;8216;immature8217;8217;. Farooq in tell-all mode
Known to often make news for reasons other than politics, Farooq Abdullah has said he is in the middle of writing a book these days, one that will 8216;8216;shake the whole country8217;8217;. The book will recount major historical incidents he has been witness to, his political ups and downs as well as personal anecdotes. The announcement comes close on the heels of Farooq8217;s fulsome praise for former Intelligence Bureau joint director M K Dhar8217;s tell-all book Open Secrets. At least some are worried Farooq may live up to his promise this time.
Police feel the blues
The much-publicised Anara Gupta episode seems to be an old chapter now, with the state Crime Branch seeking to withdraw the case against the former Miss Jammu. Anara8217;s family members say she will start a new life. They also claim that a few Bollywood directors had approached her to work in their films. While Anara8217;s future may be looking up, for the J-K police it8217;s time to make some explanations. Anara and her advocates are threatening to sue them for defamation.
