CHANDIGARH, Nov 17: The police inquiry against the newly-appointed City Youth Congress president Chander Mukhi Sharma today evoked sharp reactions from various Youth Congress leaders who have sought his resignation. Sharma was embroiled in an unsavoury controversy with charges of molestation and blackmail made against him by a local woman.

While Sharma has reiterated that the complaint against him is politically motivated, a number of YC leaders in a statement have said that Sharma8217;s resignation would help save the Congress party from humiliation in the forthcoming assembly polls in various states.

Local YC general secretaries Gurinder Pal Singh, Sunil Sharma, Sarbjit Singh Walia and Sukhjinder Nagpal, district presidents Darshan Kumar Garg and Sri Pal Verma and other Yc leaders Amarjit Singh Grewal, Harmohinder Singh Virk, Kamaldeep Bains and Romesh Rawat, have in a faxed message to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and IYC president Manish Tewari called for the immediate dismissal of Sharma, as he had also earlier contested the civic polls against the official Congress candidate as an Independent.
