Mermaid beheaded once again
COPENHAGEN: Once again, no sea view for the little mermaid. Vandals have cut off her head for the second time.
The decapitation of the beloved statue who stares wistfully out to sea was reported by a passerby. The bronze statue perches on a rock in a park along Copenhagen8217;s harbour.
In 1964, the statue based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, was decapitated. The case was given to the homicide but no one ever was arrested.
A painter, Joergen Nash, known for provocative stunts, is one of several Danes who have claimed the crime and recently said he dumped the head in a Copenhagen lake. The statue was given a new head modeled on the old one following the incident, which got worldwide attention. Scuba divers would be sent out to search for the head, said police sources.
Combat ready
WASHINGTON: Local health and safety workers are taking a crash course on how to deal with a chemical or biological attack on the Capital. The week-long programme will culminate on Friday with a mock chemical attack on a target in the city. The course represents an attempt to teach local authorities how to deal with such threats in ways that go beyond the anti-terrorist instruction usually provided in connection with presidential inaugurations and other events.
