New US treasury secretary

WASHINGTON: President Bill Clinton has said he would nominate Lawrence Summers to replace Robert Rubin as US treasury secretary.

Clinton yesterday also nominated under secretary of state for economic affairs Stuart Eizenstat to replace Summer in the number two position at the treasury.

Bhutto8217;s plea rejected

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto suffered a major set-back in her legal battle to save herself from conviction when the Supreme Court refused to accept her petition saying the quot;accused should surrender before filing the appealquot;. The registrar of the apex court returned the appeal of Bhutto on technical grounds as the official in his brief order held that according to the Supreme court8217;s rules 1980 the appellant must surrender before the court.
