Nazia denies slipping into coma

ISLAMABAD: Ailing Pakistani pop singer Nazia Hassan has denied media reports that she had slipped into coma and said she was recovering fast and hoped to record her new song soon. Hassan, who is reportedly suffering from blood cancer for the last few years, told the English daily News from London that she was improving after being under treatment for the last eight months.

Python chokes benefactor

BANGKOK: A three-metre-long Thai python choked to death a villager who let the creature loose in the jungle after capturing it earlier in the day, police said today. Hoei Kerdchuchuay, 59, was found last night with his neck crushed and the python wrapped around his torso, said Uttaradit police colonel Sathit Tonsanguan. Hoei had earlier in the day captured the huge snake, which had crept into Uttaradit town, 400 km north of Bangkok, and had eaten at least one chicken.

“Hoei, who was drunk, apparently decided to free the snake in the jungle at night sothat other villagers wouldn’t kill it,” said Sathit in a telephone interview with DPA.

Apparently the python wrapped itself around its liberator’s body and snapped his neck. Villagers chased the killer snake into the jungle after beating it off Hoei’s corpse, said Sathirt, but the snake was still at large.
