
In an apparent case of blind faith, two women allegedly coerced four women to dip their hands in boiling oil.
Police have arrested Chabbubai Raosaheb Koli 65 and her daughter-in-law Lata Suryakant Kohi 35 in connection with the case on the basis of a complaint filed by Laxmi Tatya Gaikwad 23, a resident of Mahada colony, Devkar Vasti in Vimannagar.
Police said Lata went to bathe in a community bathroom in Devkar Vasti and forgot her necklace there. She went back and searched to no avail. She and Chabbubai suspected that others who used the bathroom had taken it.
8220;They confronted Lata Gaikwad, Mahananda Kamble, Annapurna Mohekar and Smita Chavan. Chabbubai bought two litres of oil, boiled it in a vessel and put in two coins. Then, Chabbubai and Lata told them to dip their hands in the boiling oil. They told them to retrieve the coins from the vessel and that if they had not stolen the necklace, their hands would not burn. They suffered burn injuries,8221; police said .
