AMRITSAR, Feb 23: MAO College, Lahore Pakistan prevailed over over Birsa College, Ranchi 2-1 in a keenly contested league match of the seventh Nehru SAIL Champion Colleges hockey tournament being played here at the Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Complex. Jamia Millia College, New Delhi and MGKV College, Varani also won their matches.
Both the teams repeatedly attacked each other8217;s goal but could not capitalise the chances that came their way. However, the Pakistani players scored the first goal when Iqbal, connecting a short pass from the left, dodged the rival defenders to score a spectacular field goal in the 30th minute. The half time score was 1-0 in favour of Mao College.
On resumption, the Pakistani college lads were again on the attack and consolidated their lead in the 45th minute through Ahmed.
