CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: The threesome are terrific and when they come together on the stage, it is almost like the coming together of elements; you get both the serenity and fury of them in the trio. So was it this evening when Raja, Radha and Kaushalya, the Reddys of Kuchipudi, gave a befitting start to the Festival of Gardens as they mesmerised the audience from amidst the lush greenery of the Leisure Valley.
The evening with the Reddys was arranged by the North Zone Cultural Centre and the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy in association with the UT Administration. The tarana8217; they did had the aficionados yearning for more; based on Pandit Ravi Shankar8217;s composition in Raag Nat Bhairavi and choreographed by Raja, the piece saw the three dancers doing the Pygmalion round. For the sculptures they crafted became alive only to go back into the immortality of it.
Raja is one whose body movements and facial expressions are par excellence and which is the factor behind his extreme popularity and fame. The city audience saw a glimpse of it when he depicted the different movements which at times became just a play of body parts, one that drew images. And when he took out the navarasas8217;, the viewers just slid through the human psyche. The traditional climax, the tarangam8217;, unfolded really as waves. And in Raja and Radha8217;s deft footwork, dancing entirely on the taali8217;, one got the vibrations of two souls. The Reddys8217; dance had the vocal support by Saibhavani, Annadurai8217;s violin and Bhaskar Rao8217;s mridangam8217;.
