
LONDON, SEPT 21: Soccer fans are set to get the chance to buy their own part of Wembley when the English National Stadium is rebuilt next year.
Wembley National Stadium want to carve up the old venue, famous for its twin towers, and auction off the pieces.
Chris Palmer, Wembley8217;s head of communictions, said he hoped about five million pounds 8.11 million dollars would be raised by the sell-off, which would include seats, segments of the pitch, the red carpet rolled out for dignitaries and even phones from the press box.
8220;The idea is to raise some money to go into the new venue while distributing parts of the stadium as widely as possible, to make sure as many football fans as possible get a piece of Wembley, whether they have 100 pounds or one pound.
8220;We have one-and-half million visitors who attend events here each year 8212; Wembley is all about memories and the idea is to let people take those memories home with them.8221;
Not everything, however, will be up for grabs. Palmer said certain items,such as the Olympic flame and the crossbar which Geoff Hurst hit on his way to his 1966 World Cup-winning hat-trick, would be retained for the Stadium museum.
