The ballroom of the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai was filled with the clatter of high heels and girls togged out in the dress code mandated by the Lakme Fashion Week committee short singlet or tube tops, paired with hot pants or skirts. All 118 of them, from all over the country and even across the world, were here last month to audition to be models at the LFW. Many were professionals, sent by their agencies, although quite a few came with their parents or siblings in tow. Most of the girls seemed to fill the 172 cm just under 5 ft 8 inches height criteria. So it was all down to how confidently they walked the ramp and how well they translated a designers vision. At the end of a long day, only nine new faces made it.
