Shares of packaging firm Uflex Ltd nosedived by 20 per cent on the BSE,after its CMD Ashok Chaturvedi was sentenced to four-year imprisonment by a special CBI court for large-scale bungling in allotment of Noida Authority plots.
More than three years ago,Chaturvedi was under the Centres scanner, with the Income Tax department having conducted two raids on him. He was also raided by the CBI. The IT raids, conducted in Delhi,UP and Goa on charges of tax evasion by the company, assumed significance as they happened on the eve of UP Assembly polls.
In 2002,Jharkhand Governor Prabhat Kumar resigned reportedly as a consequence of Chaturvedis confession to the CBI that he had paid for three parties hosted at the official residence of Kumar in Delhi between March 1999 and July 2000 when he was Cabinet Secretary.
In 2001,it was reported that the CBI had seized an explosive diary from Chaturvedis residence, carrying names of several senior customs, excise and income-tax officials, and well-known politicians. The CBI had arrested him and Central Chief Excise Commissioner Someshwar in connection of a Rs 10 lakh bribery case.
