A magistrates court in Bangalore on Tuesday ordered the conditional release of two Iranian women arrested last week on charges of assaulting a traffic policeman and damaging equipment of a media crew after being stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving license.

The court of the XI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate granted bail on a surety of Rs 25,000 each to Azara Fasle Khode,28,and Farima Fatima,26,in the case registered for assaulting traffic sub-inspector Ganesh Rao on the night of February 17 at a check post in Bangalore.

Dr Anil Gupta,a Bangalore-based doctor who formerly practiced in Iran, also stood as personal surety for Farima Fatima in the case involving the attack on a media camera crew that was filming the women following their police detention on February 17. Dr Gupta, who told the court he was a long term friend of the parents of both women, pledged his local property documents as a guarantee.

Farima is an engineering graduate from the BMS College in Bangalore and is currently pursuing an MBA degree. Her friend Azara is pursuing a BSc degree in biotechnology at the Dayanand Sagar College in Bangalore.
