TTs mixed doubles pair team up for life

For both,medals at the Commonwealth Games and the Asiad in which they will represent India in mixed doubles,singles and team events will make the February wedding extra special.

Soumya had won the team gold at the last Commonwealth Games but in case we win a mixed doubles medal the feeling will be extraordinary. At times I dream of standing on the podium with him by my side, Poulomi told The Indian Express.

Soumyadeep is more realistic about their chances at the CWG. Singapore has a few players of Chinese origin and they are good. In fact,except India and England,most teams have at least two Chinese players in their squads,and the path to glory will not be easy, he said.

But Poulomi refuses to be downbeat. We have trained really hard for the past two years. Our preparations have been fantastic. We have toured China five times in the last 12 months. The time to deliver has come, she says.

Those who have known the couple since their early days speak of their perfect chemistry. So the news of their deciding to get married has been no surprise.

They have so much in common. They are made for each other. It didnt come as a surprise when they announced their wedding, said Rabi Chatterjee,an official of the Bengal Table Tennis Association.

Poulami has been national champion six times,Soumyadeep twice. Delhi 2010 will be their fourth Commonwealth Games appearance. Both are Arjuna awardees and work for the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.
