Top Gujarat cops in bootleggers network

Ironical though it may sound,investigations following the arrest of a notorious bootlegger from Vadodara has put the Gujarat Police at considerable unease. At least 10 high-ranking officers from Gujarat and a neighbouring state have been found to be hand-in-glove with Nagdan Gadhvi,who was arrested on Wednesday.

An investigating officer said a police officer posted in Ahmedabad and some in Saurashtra-Kutch region are under the scanner,besides those from another state. Involvement of these officers in Gadhvis network came to light during investigations of his account details which he had stored in his computer,the police said. More than 10 senior officers are involved in Gadhvis bootlegging racket and some of them are at the top-most level, said the officer,adding that they have started submitting reports to take action against these policemen.

Sources said steps have already been initiated to arrest a senior police officer from Ahmedabad under anti-corruption laws. They said they have substantial evidence to support their charges.

Details of transactions are clear in Gadhvis laptop. Various entries clearly reveal how much he paid to which police officer to keep his racket going, said an official,adding,Also,Gadhvi in his statements has given details of the role of these police officers.
