Thomas seeks CBI probe into bid to malign image

The lawyer said he has also sought contempt of court proceedings against those whom the CBI,after the probe, finds guilty of having a hand in the distortion of news

In what may be an afterthought, former Central Vigilance Commissioner P J Thomas on Tuesday moved an application in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into certain vested business interests behind efforts to tarnish his image through some sections of the media.

Three months after the Supreme Court struck down his appointment as the CVC,Thomas on Tuesday emerged to seek a clarification from the Supreme Court that the quashing of his appointment on March 3 was devoid of any personal tone.

But if today one searches Google with the keywords P J Thomas CVC tainted, one will get 7,80,000 results, advocate Wills Mathews, representing Thomas, tried to explain the magnitude of disrepute his client continues to suffer.

The lawyer said he has also sought contempt of court proceedings against those whom the CBI,after the probe, finds guilty of having a hand in the distortion of news.

Mathews stressed that there was no negative comment about Thomas personal conduct as an officer. The judgment dealt only with his selection process and appointment to the CVC chair.

The Supreme Court had clearly said in the judgment that it did not want to go into the merits of the allegations against him. Today,we want a clarification again on this, Mathews said.

While airing the Anna Hazare campaign,Times Now channel showed Thomas picture as one among those who shamed the country. We have to bring this to the attention of the court, Mathews said.
