Maoists kill two tribals in Orissa

Bhubaneswar: Less than a week after they killed nine Chhattisgarh policemen in Nuapara district,the Maoists struck again on Friday killing two tribals on the suspicion that they were police informers. The bodies of Paresh Majhi and Nagesh Majhi,belonging to two different villages of the district,were found by locals. Nuapara SP Rajesh Pandit said they were killed after they were abducted from their villages by Maoists.

Medha Patkar breaks fast

Mumbai: Social activist Medha Patkar broke her nine-day old fast on Saturday after the state government accepted some of her key demands. Patkar and several activists had been on a hunger strike since May 20 to protest against the eviction of slum dwellers from a 140-acre plot allotted to private developer Shivalik Ventures. Patkar alleged that consent of all slum dwellers was not taken.

12 killed in road mishap

ALIBAG: Twelve people were killed and eight critically injured when a speeding container truck rammed into a stationary bus on Friday night. Police said only three victims could be identified. The driver of the bus has been shifted to a Mumbai hospital. The truck driver is absconding.

Nine persons drown in UP

JHANSI: Nine persons,including women and children,drowned on Saturday when a boat ferrying more than a dozen pilgrims capsized in Betwa river,the police said. The victims were going to offer chaadar at Meer Shahs Mazaar.

Court grants bail to Eswarappa

BANGALORE: A local court granted bail to Karnataka unit BJP president K S Eswarappa after he appeared before it in response to a non-bailable warrant. An advocate had filed a private complaint,accusing him of being responsible for losses caused during the BJP bandh on January 22.
