As the sun sets on New Year’s Eve, Kolkata’s Park Street will begin to glow with festive lights, expected to swell with thousands of revellers. For Park Street and adjoining areas on New Year’s Eve, Metro Railway has announced extended services and a comprehensive security plan, intended to ensure smooth movement and public safety across Kolkata’s busiest corridors.

A massive security deployment will be in place at key stations, including Park Street, Esplanade, Maidan, Rabindra Sadan, Dum Dum and Dakshineswar. The Metro has also deployed additional women Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel to assist women and children amid the anticipated rush.

Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and standby emergency teams will be stationed at Park Street, Esplanade and Maidan to deal with any medical or security emergencies. The Central Control Room will monitor operations through round-the-clock CCTV surveillance, while ropes, loud hailers and queue managers will be used to prevent overcrowding on platforms.

Specialised dog squads will conduct security checks at stations and along tracks to ensure safety throughout the night.

To prevent commuters from being stranded after midnight, Metro Railway will operate eight additional services (four up and four down) on the Blue Line after 9:40 pm.

“We want to ensure a smooth, hassle-free journey for every citizen. We request all commuters to cooperate with Metro staff and security personnel to make the New Year transition seamless,” officials of the Metro Railway said.
