Telangana stalls Andhra House

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was for the second day on Tuesday adjourned over the Telangana issue within an hour it started business.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was for the second day on Tuesday adjourned over the Telangana issue within an hour it started business.

Soon after Governor ESL Narsimhans inaugural address,Telugu Desam Party TDP MLAs from the Telangana region disrupted the proceedings over the brutal use of force by the police on the students of Osmania University in the past two days.

Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy who had to make a statement on the investigations in the Vijayawada murder case of 9-year-old Vishnavi and the law and order situation following the Telangana protests was addressing the House then.

Ignoring Speakers requests to stay calm and let the Home Minister make her statement, the Telangana TDP MLAs rushed to the well of the House. Shouting slogans and holding placards, they demanded that the listed business be set aside and that a discussion be held on the police against OU students.

The Speaker first adjourned the House for 15 minutes and asked the floor leaders of various parties to come to his chamber. When the House reassembled, the Speaker disallowed the notices of adjournment motions one given by the TDP on alleged police excesses in OU campus, another by the AIMIM on the reservation issue for Muslims and the third by the PRP on scholarship for BC students.

This angered the TDP MLAs who started disrupting the proceedings again, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for the day.

After K Rosaiah became Chief Minister last September, the first Assembly session that was held in December was adjourned sine dine two days after it began.

On Monday, the Governor had cautioned the government against neglecting issues like shortage of funds to finance several government schemes, looming power crisis, stalled irrigation schemes, rehabilitation of flood victims that needed immediate attention.

Under pressure to show solidarity to the Telangana cause,at least 35 TDP MLAs from Telangana region on Tuesday sent their resignations to the convenor of the all-party Joint Action Committee Prof Kodandaram.

The MLAs asked the convenor to submit their resignations to the Speaker.

With only 10 TRS MLAs,and one each of TDP and BJP putting in their papers, the JAC itself is a divided house now. TDP and Congress MLAs are said to be unwilling to resign.

Though the 35 TDP MLAs have submitted their resignations to the JAC convenor, they are not valid unless they submit directly to the Speaker.

Besides,it is also a tactic by the TDP to put the JAC on the mat, which has to now force the Congress MLAs of Telangana region to resign too.
