A day after Team Anna announced it would float a political before the 2014 elections, noted RTI activist and the teams core group member Akhil Gogoi termed it as a suicidal decision.
Forming a party at this stage will turn out to be suicidal. I and my colleagues at Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti would request the core group as well as Annaji to reconsider this decision. Otherwise,we will be compelled to take our own decision, Gogoi said.
In an email to Team Anna, Gogoi said it was true that the people of the country had extended overwhelming support to the team and its campaign against corruption.
But the time is still not ripe for floating a party. There is maximum chance of this struggle against corruption getting derailed if Team Anna or India Against Corruption jumped into parliamentary politics, he said.
Gogoi, samiti leader Kamal Medhi claimed, was the first to oppose Team Annas proposal to float a party as early as April. Gogoi openly opposed the idea when it was first discussed in the core group on April 22. Kiran Bedi too sided with him in that meeting. But when the decision was finally taken this week,Gogoi was not able to attend the meeting due to ill health, Medhi said.
JD-U welcomes move
JD-U chief Sharad Yadav Saturday welcomed Team Annas decision to float a party. He said in a democratic set-up,everybody has the right to enter politics or launch political party. He was evasive when asked if the proposed party would be invited to join the NDA.
