With former Janata Party president and now a BJP leader,Subramnian Swamy, publicly differing with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swarajs demand of resignation of West Bengal Human Rights Commission chairman A K Ganguly, the BJP sought to claim Swarajs position as the official one while admitting some merit in the arguments of Swamy.
Sushma Swarajs position is very clear and that is the official position, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters in response to queries from reporters regarding differing position within the party on this issue.
Sitharaman, however, suggested that there was little room for controversy on this issue claiming that Swamy has only raised a legal issue and nothing more than that. Swamys argument is about how an alleged person is asked to quit. Swamy has raised a legal issue, Sitharaman said in an attempt to play down Swamys remarks.
Unless it is converted into an FIR or the Supreme Court appointed committee holds him prima facie guilty,I do not think you can ask a judge to be defamed. Anyone can make allegations, Swamy told reporters asserting that Justice Ganguly, who is facing allegations of sexual harassment from an intern, should not resign merely on the basis of allegations.
Meanwhile, the NCP too joined the BJP and the TMC in demanding Gangulys resignation. Justice Ganguly should immediately step down. Until the investigation is concluded,he must not be allowed to hold office, NCP leader Tariq Anwar said Tuesday.
