All the seven suspended MPs are from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar,four of them are from the Samajwadi Party,one from the Rashtriya Janata Dal and one from the Lok Janshakti Party . The last MP,Ejaz Ali,who was earlier expelled from the JDU is now an unattached member. On Monday,the MPs had snatched and torn copies of the Womens Bill,broken the Chairmans mike,and one had even climbed on the table.

A brother-in-law of RJD chief Lalu Prasad,Subhash Prasad Yadav was one of the MPs who tore the Bill and broke the Chairmans mike. Subhash fell out with his sister Rabri Devi and Lalu after his wife was denied a party ticket in the 2005 Assembly elections. Subhash was first elected to the Bihar Legislative Council in 1998 and then to the Rajya Sabha in August 2004. His Rajya Sabha profile shows that he is a graduate from Magadh University Bodh Gaya in Bihar . He is also a member of the RS committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas and member,Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Coal and Mines.

From East Champaran district,Ali runs a successful business in Mumbai. He is close to Lalu and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan. In the February 2005 Assembly elections,he unsuccessfully contested on a RJD ticket. In the November elections held after a spell of Presidents Rule,Ali switched to LJP and contested from a different seat. He lost again. In April 2008,he was fielded by the LJP for the RS,and he won the seat with RJDs support . The RS website says he is an Intermediate,B.A. He is a member,Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas,Joint Parliamentary Committee on Waqf and Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Shipping,Road Transport and Highways.

Elected on a JDU ticket,he was expelled for anti-party activities last year. A medical practitioner,Ali was picked by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in a bid to take forward his political engineering. A surgeon,Ali worked for inclusion of Dalit Muslims in the SC category. The son-in-law of Bihar s ex-Speaker Ghulam Sarwar,Alis term ends this year. It is said he is trying to get Lalus support for re-election. Ali fell off with Nitish after he demanded that JDU snaps ties with BJP. Ali is member,Parliamentary Forum on Children,member,Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests.

A small-time SP leader from Azamgarh,Yadav was given a RS berth after the death of his father,Ish Dutt Yadav,a prominent SP leader who was also in the RS. His term ends in July this year. His unruly action inside the House is being seen as an attempt to please Mulayam. The RS website says Yadav is a lawyer ,has done his M.A. Political Science and LL.B. Elected to the RS in 2004,he is member,Committee on Science and Technology,Environment and Forests,Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Rural Development and also Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.

Akhtar is a first-time member of the upper house. He was earlier a students union leader; in 1992,he was elected president of the Jamia Millia University Students Union. A native of Ujhari town in Jyoti Ba Phule Nagar district near Sambhal town,Akhtar has held the post of national president of SPs youth wing for the past four years. His RS term ends in July this year. His father Nafis Chowdhary was the chairman of the Ujhari town area committee,a post which his mother,Mahjabeen Nafees,now holds.

The district president of the SP in Bareily since 1992,Yadav was termed as chatrap satrap by Amar Singh. A lawyer,he was elevated to the RS in 2006. In 2002,he contested the Assembly polls from Sanha in Bareilly,but lost. His term ends in July 2012.

A seasoned politician,Khan was elected to the UP Assembly thrice in 1985,1989 and 1996. He was a minister in Mulayams Cabinet from 1989-91. He later deserted him and was elected as an MP from the Kairana LS seat on a RLD ticket. Subsequently,he returned to the SP and was elected to the RS seat vacated by Anil Ambani. His term ends in July. From Shamli in Muzaffarnagar,he is the former chairman of the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board.
