CREATIVE QUOTIENT
This chapter of the Twilight series arouses much curiosity because of the franchise’s supernatural love triangle. But not without the inter-species tensions.

Riley Biers (a missing person) is attacked and bitten by Victoria,in order to begin creating an army of newborns set to destroy Bella Swan. Sensing an intruder in her house,Edward Cullens fears for her safety. Bella insists that Jacob Black and the werewolf pack would never harm her,but Edward’s unconvinced.

Alice has a vision of Riley Biers and the newborns thirsting for Bella. Jacob and the Quileute wolf pack form an alliance with the Cullens. Edward and Jacob take Bella to a safe place in the mountains; and temporarily forget their differences. The snow-bound mountains are where the love triangle is played out and though Bella also loves Jacob she chooses to go with Edward.

Victoria finds Bella, Edward kills her while Seth kills Riley. The Cullens and the Quileute wolves destroy the newborns. Bella visits an injured Jacob and tells him that though she loves him,she chooses to be with Edward. Jacob reluctantly agrees not to come between them. Bella and Edward go to their meadow and plan their wedding.

Technical Expertise
Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film based on Stephenie Meyer’s novels, may well satisfy fans who like the Bella-Edward and Bella-Jacob entanglement. But for those looking for more action between the vampires and wolves,Eclipse leaves them starved. Director David Slade steps in for New Moon’s Chris Weitz, but there’s not much discernible difference in direction between the films. Danger in this supernatural teen romance comes in the form of the marauding vampires called “newborns”.

However, the battle between the army of newborns led by Victoria and Riley Biers with allied forces of the Cullens and the werewolves is enough action. Gory scenes come from the newborns feasting on victims, and creditably these scenes are dealt with speed.

The main trio of actors — Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are adept at delivering the overly sweet dialogues and provide just enough puppy love touches to grab teen eyeballs.

Eclipse simply doesn’t hold attention, except during the action scenes between Riley’s army versus the alliance.

Rating: One star for direction and performances. One star for action and production.
