Kashmir opened its shiny new airport terminal to international traffic on Valentines Day with an an Air India flight carrying around two dozen passengers arriving from Dubai and returning with 30 passengers on board. The Valley also got an extension of its train service from Mazhom to Baramulla.
UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had specially flown into the Valley to inaugurate the two services. She was there to receive the two dozen passengers on the first flight along with J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,Aviation Minister Praful Patel,Railway Minister Lalu Yadav and other dignitaries.
The airport had been declared an international airport by the Government of India in 2005 and the work on upgrading the terminal had begun soon after.
