Arvind Kejriwal-led India Against Corruption on Friday claimed that the man who threw a shoe at Kejriwal at a press conference two days ago was close to Congress president Sonia Gandhis family, and released a few photographs that purported to show the man in close proximity to Sonia and her son-in-law Robert Vadra.
The man, identified as a former Congress worker Jagdish Sharma, had thrown a shoe at Kejriwal when he was holding a press conference. The shoe had fallen well short of the target, but there was commotion after that, including slogan shouting against the Kejriwal group allegedly by Congress supporters.
One of the photographs released by the group shows Sharma standing next to Sonia, while in another he is seen sitting right next to her. Yet another photograph captures Sharma and Vadra in the same frame.
He seems to be a close aide of the Gandhi family. Has the Nehru-Gandhi family descended to Salman Khurshids level where they would send goons to disrupt our meeting, the IAC said in a meeting. In such circumstances, any attack on IAC activists would have to be presumed to be at the behest of Congress if unless the contrary is proved, it said.
Sharma, however, denied that he had attacked Kejriwal on behalf of the Gandhi family or the Congress.
He claimed that Kejriwal had been tarnishing the image of the country and his own act of hurling the shoe at Kejriwal was the result of the anger of a common man against him.
He did not deny that it was him in the photographs released by the IAC.
