Sena MPs urge PM to shift Jaitapur plant

A delegation of Shiv Sena MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted a memorandum requesting him.

A delegation of Shiv Sena MPs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Friday and submitted a memorandum requesting him to explore the option of shifting the Jaitapur nuclear project to another part of the country.

The memorandum was signed by Manohar Joshi,Sanjay Raut,Anandrao Adsul,Chandrakant Khaire,Ganesh Doodhgaonkar,Gajanan Babar,Bharatkumar Raut,Anand Paranjpe and Bhausaheb Wakchaure.

The delegation pointed out to him that the party had opposed the 9,900-MW project because the people of the Konkan region of Maharashtra, particularly those belonging to the Ratnagiri area, had apprehensions that it would lead to their devastation. The Sena said it believed in development of the state,“but not by ignoring the feelings of the people of the region”.
