President Ram Baran Yadav on Sunday issued an ultimatum to political parties asking them to solve the prevailing constitutional deadlock through consensus or face extreme measures. The president did not elaborate.
Venting his anger,on a day when a deadline for sorting out the political deadlock expired,the president is reported to have told leaders of four political parties,I am a creature of the interim constitution that you all prepared,if you can not respect that office,take whatever decision you want to regarding the fate of this institution. His remarks were made during a meeting that included Prachanda,chief of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists,Jhalanath Khanal of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist,Sushil Koirala of the Nepali Congress and Bijay Gachedar of the United Democratic Madhesi Front.
The president said that he did not expect the parties defying the constitution to uphold the dignity of the office of the president,and told them that he would be very happy if they took any decision regarding the fate of his office.
