SC rejects plea against sub-quota

The Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea challenging Centres decision to carve out a 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities from within the existing 27 percent reservation for other backward classes in educational institutions

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea challenging Centres decision to carve out a 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities from within the existing 27 percent reservation for other backward classes OBCs in educational institutions.

A Bench of Justices H L Dattu and C K Prasad asked the petitioner to approach the HC against the governments decision to give reservation to Muslims,Sikhs,Christians,Buddhists and Zoroastrians Parsis within the 27 pc OBC quota.

Petitioner Vikrant Yadav sought SCs intervention into the matter,pleading that the Centres decision was arbitrary and illegal and it should be set aside.
