RSS says no soft corner for Gadkari, those facing charges must be probed

The RSS appeared to tread cautiously on its protege Nitin Gadkari on Friday.

The RSS appeared to tread cautiously on its protege Nitin Gadkari on Friday, saying the Sangh was not soft on any individual, and all those facing allegations must be cleared by a probe.

“Land acquisition, corruption or any other issue, there are no different yardsticks. For the RSS,public morality is supreme,” RSS joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale told reporters after the inauguration of the meeting of the Sangh executive committee, which began here on Friday.

The three-day meeting is being attended by 400 senior RSS functionaries from across the country.

When asked about the RSS’s stand on the allegations against the BJP president,Hosabale said,“Whether it is Congress or BJP… there should be a due process of law and the allegations should be answered.”

He added, however, that hundreds of others faced similar allegations. “Why single out Gadkari?”

Hosabale said the meeting would not discuss the allegations against Gadkari. “We are not going to discuss case-wise or person-wise. We are going to discuss the policy of land acquisition,” he said.

The BJP,Hosabale said, had ruled the country, and was “mature enough” to not need handholding by the RSS. It was the BJP leadership that had asked former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to step down following corruption charges against him in the Lokayukta court,he pointed out.

“Here too, inquiry should take place. That is our demand,” Hosabale said.

Over the next two days,RSS leaders at the meeting would mainly discuss illegal migration and the proposed land acquisition Bill,he said.
