Reveal Antrix-Devas deal details, orders info body

The Suresh Committee submitted its report in June 2010

The Central Information Commission CIC has directed the Indian Space Research Organisation ISRO and Department of Space DoS to disclose, within six weeks, all details of the Antrix-Devas deal, including major portions of the B N Suresh Committee report, which is said to have given the deal a clean chit.

Only some information of strategic and commercial importance is exempt, said the order passed last week on 18 appeals from Vinod Sunder R,member secretary,Devas Multimedia Ltd.

The central public information officer CPIO of ISRO and DoS had denied requests for information under the RTI Act,saying, among other things, that the applicant had used his company letterhead and could not, therefore,be considered an ordinary citizen.

Information Commissioner M L Sharma ordered that the CPIO to personally scrutinise the Suresh Committee report, apply the severability clause in regard to the technological and strategic aspects, and disclose the rest of the report to the appellant.

The Suresh Committee submitted its report in June 2010. In January 2012,former ISRO chief G Madhavan Nair and three other scientists were barred from holding any government post for their role in the deal. Nair has repeatedly asked for disclosure of the contents of the report.
