Results huge boost,Raj says satisfied

MNS has won 28 seats each in Mumbai increasing its current performance from seven wards.

Celebrations were in full swing at Raj Thackerays residence in Dadar as his party registered a four-fold rise in its tally in Mumbai and shattered the Shiv Sena in its bastion of Mahim-Dadar-Prabhadevi. Moreover,MNS emerged as the single-largest party in Nashik and the second-largest in Pune.

The role of MNS was being keenly watched by people and political analysts, largely to see if it hurts the Sena in the same manner in which it did during the 2009 Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.

MNS has won 28 seats each in Mumbai increasing its current performance from seven wards. MNS has come in the second position in 53 wards in Mumbai, which its leaders felt were close contests.

The party won 28 seats in Pune and 40 in Nashik. The party opened its accounts in all other municipal corporations in the state except Congress-dominated areas of Solapur and Amravati.

Speaking to reporters,Raj said,I am satisfied with the performance and want to congratulate the winners. There are things to learn in each election and improve on them next time. I have learnt some things in these elections as well. We have lost some seats with narrow margins and will have to examine the final results very closely to understand what really happened.

He added that since the overall voting percentage for municipal corporation polls was poor,it may have affected the final outcome. The EC needs to do something about the low turnout, he said.

Now that the figures indicated that none of the alliances would need MNS support to stake claim at power in BMC,Raj said he was prepared to sit in opposition and there was no need for him to walk the agneepath. In the run-up to the polls, there was talk about a possible Sena-MNS tie-up.
