Though this is a typical boy- meets-girl story,it has been handled in a very different and unique way and could be the first of its kind in Marathi films.
The film starts with Mukta,a Mumbai girl taking the morning train to Pune. She is on her way to meet the guy selected by her mother but she goes to Pune to personally reject his proposal. While searching for his house, she meets Swapnil, who helps her with the address. Finding the house locked, she is disappointed but decides to wait for him till evening before taking the train back to Mumbai. Overhearing her telephonic conversation,Swapnil asks her the problem and when she asks where she can find a coffee shop,he takes her on his scooter and thus the two end up spending the entire day together.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai has just two characters,Swapnil Joshi and Mukta Barve. Yet the film has some splendid moments. The film starts on a dull note with Swapnil shown to be playing cricket on the street with young boys. But as the film progresses, this can be ignored as the performances by both the actors overrules the looks. Also it is the dialogue that keeps up the pace of the film. There are some brilliant lines by Parag Kulkarni. But one wonders how the Marathi audience will take to lines like Are you a virgin? as it is not exposed to such things in cinema yet.
Since it is a story of just one day in Pune, throughout the film, both are in one costume, little make-up and surprisingly there is no flaw as far as continuity is concerned. While Mukta is seen in a white cotton puffed sleeved short top over a red-and-white long top and white high heels. Swapnil is in cargo pants teamed with a T- shirt and jersey.
Director Satish Rajwade has made a brilliant attempt at making a film that is so unusual to the Marathi film scenario. The film in its entirety is faultless. The scenes shot at a crowded market area with the two character are well-done. Spanning Punes famous locations like the Ganesh temple in Saras Bagh,Deccan Gymkhana,Dagaduseth Halwais temple, the famous eatery Wadeshwar and Tulsi Bagh, the cinematography by Suhas Gujarathi is excellent. Sinhagad looks beautiful and is a perfect place for lovers. Suprisingly till the end,the names of the characters remain unknown.
RATING:
Three stars for Satish Rajwades superb direction, unique concept and Muktas and Swapnils performances.
