Former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje returned to Jaipur on Tuesday, after discussing with BJP president Rajnath Singh the high commands directive to her to step down as the Leader of the Opposition. Though Raje supporters said she would,if treated honourably, step down after the special Assembly session starting on August 27,they added that the conditions she had put before the high command remained unresolved.
Sources close to Raje said though the former CM had agreed to step down after the session,no decision had been reached on who will take over as the new Leader of the Opposition. We will wait for completion of the session and orders from the BJP high command before taking steps to find a new Leader of Opposition, said a senior leader on condition of anonymity.
However,Rajes detractors in the state asserted that factionalism within the state unit would only continue if she was given a free hand to chose her successor. Incidentally, this was one of the conditions she had put before the high command before agreeing to resign.
