Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Friday slammed the state government for not levying entertainment tax on IPL and blamed NCP chief Sharad Pawar for the current mess. He also opposed Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s call to ban the IPL.

“Pawar has led the BCCI,the parent body of IPL,for years. How can he now say that he is no way connected to the IPL? If that is so why has this Congress-NCP government not levied entertainment tax charges on IPL?” questioned Raj.

“Pawar is responsible for the controversy. When there is a railway accident, the railway minister is blamed. It is not that the minister was driving the train, but he own the responsibility. It is the same here,” he alleged.

Raj wondered that if Pawar was not connected with the IPL,then why had the government not levied entertainment tax and under whose pressure. He said the government should keep in mind that these matches were being played in floodlights while parts of Maharashtra were facing power cuts.

Raj also raised doubts on Pawar not knowing IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi’s past records. “It is hard to believe that his past record is unknown to Pawar,” he said.

Reacting to Bal Thackeray’s demand for a ban on IPL,Raj said a ban would not resolve the issue. “The need is to dig deep into the matter and unveil the fraud. When Bollywood or politics are marred in controversy, does one demand a ban on films and politics? That is not a solution,” Raj said.
