Prospect of resolving questions welcomed: India

New Delhi feels that the agreement is consistent with Indias position that the issue should be resolved diplomatically.

New Delhi Sunday welcomed the prospect of resolution of issues related to Tehrans nuclear programme through dialogue and diplomacy.

The Ministry of External Affairs MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said here,As the agreement between Iran and the P5 plus 1 has been agreed to just a few hours ago we are in the process of obtaining details from our key interlocutors. However, based on initial information available at this stage I can say that India welcomes the prospect of resolving questions related to Irans nuclear programme, through dialogue and diplomacy.

While stating that government was in the process of obtaining details from our key interlocutors, the MEAs official spokesperson recalled that India had welcomed the earlier agreement reached on November 11 between Iran and the IAEA,which is the only competent technical agency to verify the exclusively peaceful nature of Irans nuclear activities,on practical measures for enhanced IAEA verification activity at Iranian nuclear sites.

New Delhi feels that the agreement is consistent with Indias position that the issue should be resolved diplomatically on the basis of a recognition of Irans right to peaceful use of nuclear energy and in accordance with its international obligations as a non-nuclear weapon state.
